If you’ve ever been bumped off a flight, been kept hanging round an airport waiting for a delayed flight, been downgraded or lost your luggage, you’ll know how frustrating and annoying it can be. And then to cap it all, trying to get compensation or to get looked after properly by the airline can be as much of a nightmare as the original inconvenience.
Thankfully, European Union law sets out clear entitlements for air passengers in cases where things go wrong. So if your flight starts from an airport in the EU, or you’re flying to the EU on an EU carrier, you can be sure of a minimum level of care while the problem’s being sorted out, and/or compensation for the inconvenience.
The Air Transport Users Council is an independent body set up within the Civil Aviation Authority’s corporate structure to protect the reasonable interests and consumer rights of air passengers. You can find out details of your rights under EU law on their website:
