Hi, can anyone help?
I'm not used to using these kind of sites ,but here goes!I'm wondering what the best way to emigrate would be, I do not have any paper certificates but I do have 16 yrs experience as an engineer. A big worry is for me that I am 45 next birthday, I am young at heart though!
I do have a cousin in Melbourne, and even got married in Alice springs to an English girl! Can any one advise what would be best to do? Someone mentioned a sponsored visa but I am not sure how that works. I would be grateful for any help!!!!!

Hi and welcome,

I think you should seek professional help as soon as possible, because time is not on your side. The cut off for working visas is 45, and you haven't got proof of qualifications, experience etc, which you will definitely need. Before you get your hopes up, and spend any money on applications, find out if you have a chance or not.

Best wishes,

Thanks Sue, I will definately seek advice from a pro as I can prove that I have the experience and I am even prepared to take on further education if necessary.
Is 45 yrs the definate cut off point? Also would a job offer from abroad ie Australia, help my case ,from the company I am already with? Many thanks for taking time to answer my questions. Smile

Yes 45 is the cut off. I've heard of people with jobs offered, but they've been refused a visa because of age.

The problem is that because Aus desperately needs skilled tradesmen and professionals, of course, it's common sense that they also want people who have plenty of working years ahead of them. Also whatever qualifications you come here with, you would have to do a course, to adapt to the Aus rules and regulations. That's mandatory in all trades and professions.

They also are taking into account that after the age of 40, it is very hard to get a job. Companies want to employ the young rather than the older experienced worker. I think this is the same the world over.
