Hi all

Me & my partner are wanting to emigrate within the next 2 years. We are going to sell our house & rent a property in Brisbane (hopefully!) ideally we are looking to rent a 2bed house in a quiet area with fenced garden etc as we have indoor cats that are coming too!

I would like any info on OZ as we have never visited Australia before, many say we should go on holiday before moving which is a wise idea but this would cost thousands & we would have less savings to take with us.. we dont have a huge amount as it is!

My partner is a gas engineer & I am a secretary.. we have been talking to immigration who say it takes around 18months for ur visa to come through & u have 12months to emigrate - is this accurate?

Im sure i'l have many more questions to ask but that's it for now!

There's an awful lot of info on all kinds of stuff, and all given from personal experiences. You've just got to take the time to read through it. A lot of info can be gained from the official government website too, and this is where you should start off.

Whatever immigration have told you, will be correct.

yeah, we came without ever having visited Oz...our frinds thought we were mad and so did we at times, but we have been here a year and we love it.We brought our 3 indoor cats as well, and they were fine.
We do miss stuff, from the UK, but our life here far outways, what we left behind.Our visa took 14 months, and we had only 4 months to get here, once it came through, but we did it....by the skin of our teeth

If you can get a job in advance your visa could take 3 months max.

We came out with young kids, having never been here before and have found it a breaze; Oz is SO similar to the UK in most respects, sense of humour being the most obvious.
