Hello

We are emigrating to Sydney and arrive in early November. We are already worried about finding a childcare place for our two year old daughter when we arrive. We have been fairly organised and registered with some nurseries at the beginning of the year, but on ringing round we have found that we are no where near the top of the list.

Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated, as well as any tips or advice on other types of childcare we may use. If we cannot get a childcare place quickly we will not be able to stay in Oz for very long at all.

Cheers

Julie and Jamie

Hi and welcome to BE,

I'm afraid childcare is something that's in very short supply in Sydney, and also very costly. This is due to the fact that with the ever rising interest rates, buying a home needs two wages, even though half of one of those wages could be eaten up by the cost of childcare.

You did the right thing by registering with more than one kindy, and I'd suggest that you keep in contact with them all on a regular basis, until you're successful.

Good luck with the move,
