Hello BEs

I cant find any recent postings regarding work situations in NSW/Sydney, so here goes.

My husband is Australian Citizen qualified as a teacher. He has however been in this country for 8 years so will have to start as a new teacher status in NSW.

I on the hand a bit nervous due not too sure what to expect on the job front over in Sydney/NSW. I have been in administrative for over 20 years but most recent experience (6 years) has been in Accounts Receivable/Credit Control and Billings.

I am over 40 but with enough flexibility and also hopefully maturity to tackle new job situation. I have been trawling the job sites and it looks good and rosy but then they are recruitment agencies and they could pump things up a bit.

What is the board advice as regards to looking for a job, should it be done before we leave the UK? General or specific tips would be much appreciated. I am aware that you have to add on further skills to match the local requirement.

Thanks and looking forward to advice, comments and any other stuff like what is she talking about.

Being nervous is a big part of the whole relocation business. Personally I would steer clear of recruitment agencies. They're great for say the nursing/medical profession, but for normal 'every day' jobs, I've not heard any good reports. If you're good at your job, have all the necessary paperwork to prove it, then you shouldn't have much trouble getting a job on your own merit. I'd pay them money as a last resort, not first!

I think you'd be better to apply for jobs when you arrive, as most employers like to conduct interviews face to face. All part of the deciding factor Very Happy

Good luck,
