Hello, I'm a new arrival in Oz, originally from the UK but have spent the last 11 years in Japan. I moved here with my Australian wife after she was diagnosed with leukemia, so that she can get treatment, and am now starting the dance of visa applications etc. Obviously the illness meant there wasn't really time to plan the move properly.
My question is about qualifications - despite holding a masters degree, it seems that a lot of jobs here require certificates and diplomas that I don't possess. I've been looking at local colleges for evening classes, but the international student prices are incredibly high compared to those for Australians. Does anyone know, what kind of visa would you need to have in order to qualify for Australian fees? I'm just writing the forms now for my partner visa, but even if I get it I'll be "temporary" for 2 years. Is this enough, or is it possible to qualify with a bridging visa in the meantime? Thankfully the wife's treatment is going well, but if I can't get a job we'll have a new set of problems!
Thanks,
Will
