Hi

Does anyone know if a UK landline phone will work in Canada?

Are the connections the same, if not can you get an adaptor?

Cheers
James

<pulling out phone jack and staring at it intently> it looks different. Looks shorter and fatter. But I'm not the best person to answer this Laughing . Is yours very special because phones are really cheap here.

Not really special, was about $200 as it's a walkabout type phone with built in answer machine and text facility. Was just keen to avoid yet another sell and re-purchase.

We'll pretty much just be bringing our clothes over at this rate ... can't wait for the shopping spree though!

Thanks for the reply.

Have a look at the phone end of the cord between your phone and the socket. If it's a jack-and-socket attachment, you may find that all you have to do is buy a new cord with an RJ11 jack at each end. (The RJ11 is the shorter, fatter jack that modems and North American phone sockets take.)

Even if it's permanently attached to the phone, you should be able to buy a BT-to-RJ11 adapter somewhere (Tandy or most large computer supplies shops will have them).

I should have added: if you're buying the adapter, you'll probably need to do it in the UK. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find them readily elsewhere in the world...

Would there be an issue with the different frequencies used for cordless DECT phones? I'd love to bring mine but I don't think just a new adapter would be solve the problem. Confused

wouldn't have thought so, the base station is really just a rechargable battery for the hand held (plus radio transmitter/receiver) may even have a switch for the alternate voltage.

I would have thought that it would work ok, the connection for a computer modem is RJ to Rj so that is available, the base is usually through a transformer , again easily bought, the frequency is 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz. I looked at phones last week and the 5.8 unit with 2 cordless and answer phone were about C$ 140 at Future shop.

I understand your reasoning and might be worth a try , if all fails you can get new.
