Hi Pauline - I can soooo relate to the sleepless nights!
My GP was supposed to write some additional information for my medical and I have just had an e-mail saying the immigration medical doctor has not had it yet so I am sat here steaming Twisted Evil until 0800 when I am going to call my GP and say my world hangs on her letter!!!!!!!!

I am so reassured about everthing else though and so glad to have this site (huge comfort blanket Wink )

Ok... now to count the minutes until 0800 Shocked

Give them hell!
What people don't appreciate is that the more time they spend, being inefficient, the less time you have as the clock started ticking on the day you had your medicals!
Chin up and a nice cup of peppermint tea for the anxiety!

Thank you Pauline and CarolineDraper... I did the grovelling route and it worked... I have the additional information so up at 0545 to drive into Birmingham tomorrow to post it before work.

Thanks for allowing me to rant though!!! Rant!

Now all I have to do is pass the medical. I just hope they are able to give some kind of indication that I have passed or failed - oh Caroline has answered that one! (worried re asthma and diabetes) so it it going to be a long few weeks.

Hello Pauline,
I hope you do not mind me asking, where did you get your meds done and the cost? We live in Liverpool and are looking for a good place to get them done.

Many thanks in advance

Simon

im wondering if the medical i had done in november for possible immigration into OZ would count? we are trying for baby no 3 and i didnt want to be having an xray when preggers so had the xray and medical done and kept at the drs , assume if the dr is allowed to do meds for canada, i could just fill in and take in the canada forms and use the same xray? ( as i havent got it so no danger of tampering) and its within 3 months? woudl they still take that you think?

I suspect this isn't going to work for you, the examining doc has a specific form to fill for your medical, there are also designated doctors so unless your previous exam was done by one of the ones on the list it will probably need to be redone.

THe other aspect is that your visa to land in canada is usually limited to 12 months after tha date of your medical.

Hi to all, not sure if our experience will help anyone, we recently received our PR visas after 4 years waiting, and had to go through the whole medical process,My husband is 44 and I am now 39, here was our experience:

We had a to go and have bloods in March 09, done at the hospital (private cost to us), they messed up my husbands first time round and it came back with a "weird" result, so we had to repeat (again at our cost) a couple of weeks later.

Straght after the bloods we had our "medical" with a designated Practitioner , urine, examine, lots of questions by the doctor re health generally. We then both had to have chest x rays (privately cost to us again)

My husband had a pre-existing conditions of Arthritus (althought not symptomatic at that time), so after the medical he received a letter stating that he then had to either get a full report on his condition including the prognosis from his Rheumatologist, or they would refer him privately (at our cost) to get this required report.

I had no "conditions " as such, although i do suffer from PCOS, because I was taking medication for depression (caused by my Hormone imbalance) I received a letter requesting that I visit a Pyscologist to ensure that I "was not a danger to myself or anyone else", again this was at our own cost.

As it happens all the reports came back and were accepted by the high commission, but we were not prepared for the depth and cost of the medicals, we were not told that if you take any medications , however minor they are, chances are you will be required to visit a private specialist in relating to that medication etc.

All in all our medicals with all bloods and referral fees cost in excess of £700, and we are healthly people, (i,e none of our conditions are serious) and the process took almost 5 months to complete. The downside of this is that the PR visa is 12 months from the date of your initial medical, so even if it takes 10 months to complete the whole "medical process" before you receive your visa, the visa will still start on the date you had your offical medical and cannot be extended, so you have to work quickly to validate your visa before it expires.

I cant say if any conditions are not accepted by the high commission and would result in a visa rejection, but I think people should be prepared for the cost and the time it takes to get all this stuff done.

Hope someone finds this useful Smile

Hi Im new to this forum,

Got married to a Canadian this August and currently going through all the paperwork, thought I share my experience with the medical.

I had my medical done in Uk in September, which was quite easy. I first thought I go to my own GP, which would have costed 50GBP for them to do all tests and fill in forms. but then reading the Immigration form again, they got designated GP's in UK and said only these are acceptable.

I went to the Birmingham one. and it cost me 260GBP, and took no more than 2 hours for the whole thing.

the first nurse took me in, asked few simple questions if i was taking any medication for anything, and was making sure that the form was filled in correctly, then she gave a tube/ cup for urine sample to give it to the 2nd nurse. I didnt have my cervical form with me, but they where fine for me to scan and send it to them.

then I went and waited for the 2nd nurse to call me in, she took one blood sample, checked height, weight, eye test.

then i had to go back out again, 3rd nurse took me straight in for x-rays, only one chest x-ray and tht was it.

then i had to wait for the main doctor, very nice chap, he checked my balance (meaning he asked to walk straight couple of steps, tilt to the right, and to the left), he checked my heart beat, hearing and few questions.....about general health.

and that was it, I got a receipt in the post after 10-12 days, confirming all paperwork been sent in, and i can follow up on the website to make sure its been signed and received.
