My daughter is having a problem finding reasonable car insurance in Ontario, she has swapped her UK license for a full G license and has been driving in Canada for a year, her insurance is up for renewal and has gone up by $300! Are there any good car insurance companies or brokers which take into account no claims history etc from the UK? It seems so expensive!

It is expensive in Canada there is no doubt, most of the costs due to the more active legal system we have out here for compensation claims. Get the no claims history in writing from the old insurer and start shopping, you will find the odd insurance company which will accept the UK no claims, but they are few and far between I seem to recall.

As they say here "just suck it up". Some insurance companies asked for proof of our driving history in the UK.... We gave it to them, the costs were horrendous! When we got here last year, we went to the company a lot of people on here used, as we could no get Ontario licenses due to strike action, they wanted $900 a month to insure two Jeeps!

I told them where to poke that. We found someone in the end for half that price, but we have had 2 hikes in costs over the last 4 months, this has added 40% more on top. You are treated the same as a new young driver when you get insurance. It is VERY expensive, beware.

I don't have the address but there is a Canadian web site which gives you cost comparisons for all major insurers. It's a quick way to see who is the most competitive for you. It's out there somewhere although, of course, newcomers are in a special category.
Ecstatic in paradise.
