Hello Smile

What actually takes place during the medical? Is it questions and answers, or do they take blood etc?

Just wondering as I know my parents weren't all that hot in keeping records of the vaccinations etc that I had as a child, and the last time I went to my GP's surgery for a travel jab, they couldn't find my records... *bangs head on desk*

Wink

Hi there,
Not too much to worry about.

Medical will include at least the following;
Weight measurement
Height measurement
Blood pressure measurement
General health check and questions (eyes, ears, general well-being)
Chest x-ray (looking for TB)
Blood sample (This is an Aids test for over 18's- you CAN eat prior to this !)
Take records of all current medication and of any operations within the last 3-5 years.
Take records of last smear test is this applies.

If you are concerned at all speak to the test centre who will be able to give you more advice. Good luck.

All the best - TY.

Hi Maia

In addition to what ty64 has mentioned you have to undergo a breast examination. You can opt to get your family GP to do this if you prefer. He/she would then have to send their report to the immig doctor.

just to update...i had my medical today, and all the above was correct Smile the only difference being that i wasn't asked about pap/smear tests, nor any vaccinations etc that i may've had....

i'm hoping all went well, but boy do i have a sore arm from the blood test *ouch*

it took about 5 minutes for the chest x-ray, and no more than 30 minutes for the other bits, including some form-filling. Smile

Just or a bit of advice.

If you have had any issues with blood pressure, ie borderline elevated which has never needed to be medicated, get checked with your GP prior to your medical. The Canadians have very strict guidelines on management of hypertension. My BP has been a bit fluctuant for many years(even when I was very fit in my 20's) the GP has never felt it worth medicating. When I attended for my medical, my BP was elevated. The medical officer advised me that I would need to show signs of some sort of management, with a letter from my GP before she could issue a pass on my medical. Which I did simply enough but it delayed the process by a couple of weeks!

To add, keep an eye on your children's ages.

Our son was nearly 5 when we had the meds done, but our Canadian Doctor suggested that we have the urine test done as he would be 5 by the time the meds were recieved back in London UK. Even though it is not needed for 4 year olds.

Had we not done this then they would have sent the form back requesting it.

Worth doing to save the hassle later.

Hiya - I am new to the site and wanted to add to this thread...

We had our medicals a couple of weeks ago and everything went well.

The Dr. was lovely and very thorough. Can recommend if you live in teh South. He is based nr Slough.

We also had bloods and the chest x-rays done privately.

Hi
I just wanted to ask "out there" what experience people have had of timelines between medical results having been submitted and call for passports.
My family and I had our medicals Dec 11th and after resolving an issue, we were passed as fit and all documentation was sent January.
It is now April 10th and still no news! The client application status on the CIC website still reads "In process" and frankly, I am worried.
I have e-mailed CIC and am waiting for a reply, but any reassurance / information/ experiences/ advice would be welcomed.

You do not hear anything regarding the med results. You know you are ok cos you get the passport request letter. It makes the whole experience even more nerve wracking. Just to add that little bit more suspence and fearful anticipation - its better then a horror movie this immigration process - twists and turns, looking over your back, watching every move etc.

Hi Helen
We called the doctor's office and were told that our medicals were approved, which is a good thing as it took so long for the passport request to arrive! She also had a number, which she could not give us, for obvious reasons, and called CHC to confirm that they had arrived safely - put our minds at rest, but still an awful wait for passport request!
I agree with the last post about the process giving the same suspense as a horror movie! It doesn't feel that much better even now we know we are in - just the anticipation of the move and all that is needed to be done, how much our lives are going to change, fear of the unknown.......when will I start sleeping again!!!!!
