Just out of curiousity, do Londoner's ever emigrate here. The only reason I ask is that I have been here 16 months now and haven't met one! Definately not a problem 'cos my bestest friends are from Scotland and Leeds -just curious!

From a fellow Scot.... if your best bud is Scottish... why on earth would you want to make contact with a Londoner!!! Only joking, in answer to your question I think they are a rare breed over here as we have not come into contact with any either!!! Laughing

Eltham born and Bred living here in Niagara Falls.
There are a few of us here, but they all seem to be older and have been in Canada a while.
Most people I meet from the UK seem to be from the North England or Scotland.

When you first arrive, speak slowly! Otherwise you will say everything twice eh? Wink

Hi Mal,

We sure were close! I have met people in the Falls from Chislehurst, Bromley, and even a fellow Eltham resident. All much older than me though.

The lady from Chislehurst is older, maybe in her 70's and last went back about 10 years ago. Says she can't stand the damp, no good for her bones!

The guy from Eltham would go back, but is semi retired and cannot afford to. One of their children born in Canada lives in the UK and won't come back to the falls. The other child lives in Toronto.

I read some of your earlier posts about comimg to Canada with kids. It sounds like things have worked out for you. I am struggling here (see other posts) and my wife is from the Falls. So we have some good UK vs CDN battles sometimes. But she always says the UK are much better drivers!

My point is I met a girl working in the Casino who was about 23 that had a strange accent. I could detect a bit of UK there! We got talking and lo and behold she was from Welling!! Her family moved when she was about 16 and she hated it. She was made fun of at School and took her a long time to adjust. Probably why she pretty much lost the accent.

How about you? I don't want to loose my accent. But wish I could speak Canadian sometimes! "Dont fink I will evver lose ma sarf London accent mate!"

Also I guy I know from Tottenham (North of the Thames I know) would never go back. But he has been here since the 60's with his UK wife. Then both their sets of parents came out a year later.

I think it all depends where you come from, what job you have, where you have moved to and the people you meet. But I think at 30 I was too old and set in my ways to come out here. Which is probably why I am struggling.

We are north of London - Essex.

Everyone loves the accent which makes a nice change from the readers of the SUN.

We were and still are in our 30s when we came over with our 3 year old. We now also have a 14 month old. Honestly there are things we miss and our folks, but in fairness we would not go back even if we could afford to.

We have always been made welcome and have thrown ourselves into clubs etc - do not ask but somehow I am the new Beaver Leader in our area!!!

We had made many friends in NS but its all new to us here in ON so we will have to start again. It will take awhile but the locals have been very friendly.

Any how we are now south of the 401 but east of TO in the County which is surrounded by Lake O.

Been in Vancouver 10 years this October and have met a few people from London. There appear to be lots of ex-pats around and a general wanting for ex-pats to meet each other -let's face it, the Canadians have a different sense of humour.

I am currently investigating re-establishing an old organization called the BCCTC for businesses doing business with UK from Canada or vice versa.

I'm an east Londoner from Stoke Newington / Hackney area. My wife and I have been here 34 years now. We would never go back, even for a visit, except perhaps some time in the future to visit friends up north. We love Canada, pure and simple.
Ecstatic in paradise.

Hi Buddyboy

I lived on Amhurst Road from 1988 to 1994, and loved it - really miss the Turkish cafes
