hi please help. we are now on to the shipping part of our emmigration saga!!!!!!!!!!!! we have just been quoted about 5 - 6 thousand for a 20' container and about 8 - 9 for a 40'. is this about right??? this is door to door and everthing packed for us. we were told we couldnt have insurance if we packed ourselves.

also electrical goods. are converters cheap and can you use them on any appliance, hair dryers to fridge freezers??

also, what about vehicles, i wondered about taking my car. has anyone any experience of this..

cheers all

Depends where you're coming from and where you're going. The deeper in Canada you are, the more $ you pay. We paid GBP6,000 for a 40' extra high container fully packed by Pickfords from Birmingham to London (Ontario).

Can't answer the question about converters. We only brought over the welder and pressure washer which my husband uses via the dryer plug socket.

How old is it? If your vehicle is over 15 years old then you can bring it, younger than that, you can't because of safety / emissions tests. Is it special?

converters - don't waste money on them. Wne I moved to Berlin I just brought some UK multi socket extension cables and changed the plugs on them. Most of my electrical appliances still have UK plugs.

5 grand sounds like a lot for shipping. How long will it take for your stuff to get there?
