I have just found this site. I'm here on a TRP (I gain my C next year) but on reading the posts they all seem to be from younger people with families. Doesn't anyone over the age of 40 emmigrate. I arrived in Jan. 08 at the grand old age of 59. Although I've found it hard to make friends and I miss my friends back home I most certainly don't want to return to the UK. I love the gentleness of the people here and how they speak to you like they have known you for years. I love the space, Ilford was just too crowded, and I love the courtesy of the staff in shops and offices etc.

So come on you mature people lets not hide our lights under whatever.

I think you are the unusual one for deciding to do it Laughing So many of the people we spoke to in England were very much "oh, it's too late for us", "there's no point". C'mon guys, where your sense of adventure eh? Also, I think people get tangled up with the "well, the kids are settled in school" (travel does them good), "My parents are going to need support in a few years time", "what about my pension", "I've got a good job", "what shall we do with the house?" and before you know it, the opportunity's gone.

I think it comes down to imagination, and a lot of people don't have it Crying or Very sad

My wife and I have been in Canada since 1975. While we were young when we came, we are now around 60 and retired for seven years or so. My wife's mother came from the UK and joined us five years ago at age 80. She loves it here and has a busy, vibrant social life.

What made me want to chime in was the comment that many don't emigrate because they have parents to care for, etc. You can still care for your parents after coming to Canada, you can give them the most wonderful holidays imaginable, and they can join you when the time comes. There are always a thousand reasons why you cannot realize your dreams. It's those who do it anyway that achieve true happiness.
Ecstatic in paradise.
