Hi there could anybody please tell me if a uk Diploma is the equivalant to a qualification in canada, as my DH is about to buy me my course for a diploma in social work and just wondered whether it would be worth waiting till i got there to do one of their courses from home instead of here. Please help!!![/b]

You should probably try to contact the professional organisations for the type of work you wish to do in the province you are aiming for, currently there is only patchy agreement between provinces about appropriate education for a number of occupations.

In BC you would need a degree in social work and that would be subject to scrutiny for accreditation equivalence.

Canadians have an aversion to all things non-Canadian and then the Provinces have an aversion to all things non-Canadian AND non-province. SO if you train as a teacher in Alberta, at a Canadian University that will still not be good enough should you chose to move to Ontario. They will want you to take Ontario exams to make sure you are up to snuff. You will also find that things you can do with a diploma in the UK will take a Degree to do here in Canada. So the answer to your question is.....if you are thinking of taking any training courses, do your research and take the appropriate one in Canada, do not waste your time taking British ones. Yes I know Cambridge University was founded in the 1200's and the University of Toronto was only founded 150 years ago but that is irrelevant. Canadian education and Canadian work experience are unofficial bylaws here...get used to it...LOL
