hi we are in the first stages off moving to Canada,does any one have any ideas of places semi rural about 10-15 miles from a middle sized city and close to the country side,we live in that kind of enviroment now so we are looking at the same thing thanks

I refer you back to my previous post where I asked you a few questions - one of which:

Do you like the sea or lakes?

Snow or warmth?

These are vital questions that need to be answered before we can aid you. Other questions:

Flight time from the UK?

Wide open spaces - Alberta style or mixed terrain - Ontario style.

Where do you live near Brum - Black Country, Kinver etc this will all help with knowing how the area you currently live in can be matched to Canada.

we live in a place called frankley,it has hills and farm land within a 5 min walk from our home.we would like a traditional weather pattern sunny in summer and snow for xmas,thanks for your reply

flight time would depend on time differance,we would be better to get to canada late after noon,so we could get dinner then bed for the children .

I presume Caroline meant how long a flight time, not what particular time of day you want to arrive.....

sorry does not matter,we are looking at manitoba,saskatchewan and british columbia

Coastal bc weather is like the uk - damp, gloomy and temperate
sask and manitoba are cold in the winter, you'll defo get snow for christmas - and easter, and possibly may day! both plces are warm in the summer, from june to sept, but this coincides with the mozzie season, esp at the lake!

You cant get to manitoba directly from the uk at present, in fact you cant get directly to and from manitoba from almost everywhere, and I cant imagine sask is any different

winnipeg has popln of about 600k, it has a fair spread of facilities, good arts scene - live music etc,

my wife says shopping is rubbish!

property is reasonable, there is a bit of a violent crime issue, as there is everywhere.

Cost of living apart from houses is highish.

it looks pretty drab generally, (even compared to brum!)

Generally wages are low,

Schools are supposed to be ok, my daughter is in a private school, and its supposed to be a good one, but its not as good as the school she was at in england

it takes about an hour to drive to the lake, and provinical park with trails etc.

Winter is COLD - this year exceptionally so, we had about a dozen days warmer than -20 between december and march. Summer is several weeks in 30 degree territory.

If you prefer smaller place brandon is a couple of hours drive to the west, pop is about 60k.

imy wife and i have got to be in a bigish town,as my wife is a teaching assistant and when qualified i will be a plumber or plasterer,need a big town for work,are you semi rural in winniepeg?
