What a mess...... The Drivers License department in Ontario is on strike! Looks like it will be a long one now.

That means we cannot get our drivers licenses. No Ontario drivers license, no Insurance! Only one company will do it for us, at triple the rate!

If you are landing soon. Get a long rental.

oooooooooo nasty. Can you do it on line? I know we use service ontario to renew all our car stuff. It may be that you can only use it to renew but look it up it has other useful stuff on it.

Nope.. Tried that.... I have to pay $690 a month insurance till I can get the licenses!

I did a quote based as if I had my UK license and then called the insurer to explain that I couldn't swap my license for Canadian due to strikes, they understood and gave me the same price on my UK one.

I would have thought that an broker would have been able to sort out a better rate on the basis that you will be getting a G license once they get back to work. As you have 90 days to change I would also think that a word with the OPP might be a good idea, nothing specific - general inquiry as to your status.

If your driving record from the UK is good and you have brought with you proof of bonus I would have thought a more reasonable price could have been arranged.

I found a Broker is best , as they have a better trading relationship with companies, especially if you can offer addition insurance needs.
