Hello and welcome to the British Expat forum.

Hope we can help you to find some new friends soon. It's not easy is it? Especially if your husband is away a lot.

Good luck! 8)

I assume your kids go to school? Do they walk or catch the bus to school? I've met all my friends just by walking to and from school and chatting to other parents in the playground. If it's a bussing school - hmmm - have you been to every function at school possible? Volunteered there?

ALso, remember, it takes time. I spent a year roaming about between the mall and playground chatting ot people - school saved me.

Also (again) Embarassed is there a local mums forum on-line in your town / city? That's another way to meet people.

Good luck. The first few months are lonely, espeically if your husband is away a lot.

Hi Canadabunny,

Where abouts in NS are you living?

I have 2 kids also who are now almost 15 and almost 7. We moved her 2 and half years ago.

I walked around knocking on peoples doors who have kids to introduce myself and my kids. I never did this before in my life and I was really nervous, but everyone was really welcoming and we are all still friends today.
Through these people I met others, and then others, etc. I now have a really good circle of friends here.

Do you work?
My work is great and I meet loads of people through my job.

I also met a few people from this forum who I still see today.

The school is another great place as someone else mentioned, you have to be brave, make the first move and say hello to people.

Good luck and if you live nearby I would be happy to meet you Very Happy

Hi Lorry

I live in Upper Rawdon (just off Beaverbank Road). I have two children boy (13) and a girl (7). I don't work at the moment as have only just got myself a work permit (long story!) but am going to seriously look in the new year. My children get on the school bus so don't drive them there. I know what you mean about getting out there, trouble is that when its not a natural thing to do then it just feels weird!! Would love to get together for a coffee.... am free most days.... feel free to p.m me...

Canadabunny,

You cannot receive pm yet so we'll have to arrange to meet at a park or something.

You are only a few minutes from me, I just live off First Lake!

I work 3 and half days a week but I will be happy to meet up on my day off, maybe after school so I can bring the kids Very Happy

I have 2 girls but my youngest is nearly 7 so they could have a playdate if you like?

Very Happy

Hi

Would be happy to meet up at a park. Are there any round by you as I haven't actually seen one since moving here (weird I know but true!). There is also The Treehouse Cafe but not sure if that is too babyish for the girls. They do nice smoothies tho..... Let me know what you'd prefer.

Never been to that Treehouse place but it should be OK. I will contact you when I am able to meet. Can you PM me?
Not sure if you can?

no I can't p.m you yet. You might want to check out The Treehouse Cafe in Sackville/Bedford (www.mytreehouse.ca) and see if suitable. Am happy to meet at a park though as well and open to any other suggestions. I will wait to hear from you and we can go from there. Speak soon...

Hiya, I am due to move over in May and will be on my own with the kids for 18 months, while my OH finishes his job here in the UK! Shocked So I probably will be in the same situation as you.

We have a house in Windsor Junction, so not too far from you. Would love to keep in touch. My kids will be 12 (girl) and 7 (boy) in the May when we move.
