Hi, I's also be very grateful for replies to this question. My husband is a Heavy equipment mechanic, although here we call it a Diesel fitter.

Would he have to sit another exam or can he transfer his qualifications over?

Thanks in advance

Hi generally speaking anyone coming to Alberta or indeed most of Canada will have to prove equivalency to the local requirements, for mechanics that would be the Red-Seal examination. There are preparation exams and all sorts of help for these exams both on the provincial sites and on the trade-school sites. Try this one for Alberta as it gives a good deal of information for mechanics:

Read through that carefully as it should answer a lot of your questions.
Cheers.
