Can someone tell me what they look for during a medical examination with being assessed for a Visa? I have suffered with depression on and off will this go against me?

Most likely not as it's treatable with relatively cheap medication and shouldn't be a real concern. They are more looking for the TB's cancer, heart conditions, stroke etc, things which cost the Canadian government money to look after. If you check the immigration Canada website you'll find a bit more information there.
