I am grateful to N Meeking, periodically of Palawan, for his response to my message of 12th May - the first!! Hurrah! Hello....er....Nick? Nigel? "Noy"??!! And yes, I know what you mean about the relatives.

I note with amusement that there have been 77 'views' of my message and only one reply. I deduce that there are many curious but uncommunicative bods out there or I must have sounded like a tedious old f4rt in my message. Speak up, chaps!!

In fact I have now met up with two other Brits living on Guimaras and one American. Any one else for the Skylark?

Hi Keith, I guess there aren't too many people living out there in the Philippines who are expats. I'd like to say "Hi" and welcome to the board, we're not usually that shy a bunch and perhaps your message was overlooked although with 70+ hits that seems unlikely Confused . Come on over and join us on the main site in the Chinwags section where a lot of expats get together for a chat. Don't feel left out, the only man out there in the Pacific etc, we're all here ready to chat and have a joke. Perhaps try Ruggie's the virtual pub on the main board if you feel like a pint of something special. Waddington's 6X is available as is Marston's pedigree, Newcastle Brown or a pint of Watneys Red Barrel (although who in their right mind would drink that is beyond me). There is chat about sports, gardening and enough jokes to keep you chuckling for hours. So come on over to the main board and join in.

Cheers.
Smile

I guess this is a common remark, but the only things I miss about UK are proper pubs and beer.

I've managed to partly get around this at times by shipping stuff over, but it is pretty costly. I'm always on the look out for suppliers of British beer in Manila. There used to be Athena in Alabang but that was closed up for rennovation last time I looked. I'll check it out again in October.

Just received 24 cans of K cider through Expatdirect ( good service ) and am awaiting the arrival of some Tetleys and Stella as part of my stocking up for the festive season.

Just wondering how others out ther overcome these little difficulties.

Matt

What i generally do is post on my site when i fly back and forth. Because i have most of my day to day items in both countries so offer a "bring it in service" basically my luggage space.. depending on which flights I come in on can bring the beer for the cost.. only down side is you would need to collect from my place in Cebu :-s But maybe there are other expats that are willing to do the same...
