Hi anyone out there bought any of the new apartments being built in Northern Cyprus, any pitfalls or hidden agendas, heard of properties being taken back that used to belong to Greek Cypriots before 1974 conflict, but is this only for properties that were built then and not new properties, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have been moving people to northern Cyprus for a long time and it has now become a major destination for Brits. We have heard of these stories but as yet have never heard of anyone losing their home or being threatened with loss of their home. Whatever resolve happens I am certain that due to the number of Brits living in TRNC they would not be expelled. Their contribution to the local economy is too great. It is more likely that this dispute between Greece and Turkey will go on indefinitely.

What embassy comes in between then if you would ever need them? Because in practise you live in a fully independent state, however one which has no recognition whatsoever, so in theory you live in no-mans-land? What statute does a Briton in TRNC have? Is he in theory an immigrant in Cyprus or which country of residence will be accepted generally?

I think that as far as every country in the world apart from Turkey is concerned, legally he'd be considered to be in Cyprus. On the other hand, if he needed consular protection then I'm not sure what would happen - or indeed if he'd be able to get any, short of his country's government taking it up with the Turks as intermediaries.
