Come on guys and gals.... I know there must be some more of you out there. I see customStrat has been trying to bang some dustbin lids in one of the other forums so i'll make some noise down here too!!! Very Happy

What do you rekon Strat??? there must be more than 2 of us in the whole state. Maybe they have been kidnaped and eaten by the locals... or maybe they're just all stuck in the roadworks on I40.

Hi SgtBhaji

OK, so I'm not in Arkansas - I'm in New Delhi - but I had a laugh at your posting and just thought I'd say hello and welcome to the forum. Hope you don't get eaten by the locals! I expect that we'll be fine here as many, if not most, are veggies. Very Happy

As for you Rich... A good point well made... Still you never know... There's no accounting for taste and all that mallarchy.

So, where can I get my hands on a bottle of HP? Man i could kill a curry and some proper Ale!!!

Please do stick around Sgt (or should I call you Bhaji?) - it's great to have you aboard. If you've got the imagination you can have whatever you want (within reason) at Ruggie's. Mike K-H has just set up a virtual bar in there. Get your indefinite slate and you could try requesting a menu with HP sauce on it. And if you're up for a game of virtual snooker, I don't mind giving you a thrashing. Very Happy

Sorry, couldn't resist!

There's bound to be more expats than that in Arkansas - we seem to get everywhere. I'm in a small town in the middle of Sweden (c. 20000), and there are 15 other Brits (that I know of) and officially 54 Americans here, all for no apparent reason.

And I agree entirely about the lack of decent Ale (stale boddingtons is all we can manage on draught) and proper curry, although strangely HP and worcester sauce are readily available here.

Thanks for the warm welcome Kay. I feel at home already. I'll have to take you up on that offer of a game of snooker. I'm happy to take a damn good thrashing as long as I can administer a thrashing at darts in return!!! Very Happy

Rich... don't worry, i didn't take offence to yer comments, Infact it made me chuckle as I ask myself what on earth i'm doing here.

Right.. now where's that boozer???

Darts? I don't play darts. I'm lucky if I can hit the board. If it makes you happy then by all means I accept that you've beaten me at darts. BUT, snooker is different. Are you still up for it? As long as I haven't had too many Scrumpy Jumpys, I reckon I'll do alright...

If you're ever in the Real World, we'll play. Be prepared. Twisted Evil

The Boozer is Ruggie's, and your a much braver man than any of the rest of us. Letting Kay near darts is like putting Oil near Dubya - It's asking for big, big trouble!

Good that you feel at home here already and feel free to join in wherever. Also glad you didn't take offence - I have a great talent for unintentionally offending people. It's about the only thing i'm actually good at.

Welcome!

Rich says he's a St Helenan Welshman (so I may have bumped into him at the quayside in Southampton, looking for the St Helena boat's purser so that he could give him a bunch of cards & prezzies for the folks) - but I reckon there must be some bog Irish in him too. His directions smack of "If Oi was you, sorr, Oi wouldn't start from here..." What's the use of giving a street address without naming the town?

Ruggie's is a sticky thread at the top of Throw Off The Rug. Rich seems to be a bit shy, and keeps posting on the Edinburgh Festival thread, where it all started. When he plucks up courage (or gets round to believing that he really won't ever have to pay for his drinks), I hope he'll come past the door.
Did you know that espadrilles were worn by footsoldiers in the XIIIth century?

Come off it. I'm a cartographer. How the heck am I supposed to remember directions or town names Confused

Unfortunately i'm a Thatcher child, so I can't believe anything until it's been officially denied. I've now made in inside after managing to convince barman that my fake ID is actually a real one!

Welcome aboard, Sarge!

Well, there's at least the two of us but I'm sure there are more. I've seen at least two Union Jack front bumper plates but, since the State motto is "Literacy isn't Everything" it could well be that some locals think it's the rebel flag... The best I've managed for decent beer is Newkie Brown from Krogers... Rolling Eyes And I've been told that there's a decent Indian restaurant in west Little Rock called...The Star of India... Rolling Eyes

Seriously, though, there's at least one Brit on the faculty of UALR and there's a New Age shop in Little Rock called The Broom Closet that's run by a lady from Kent. There are a few of us around but I don't think anyone other than locals go to The Underground Pub...

Alright, Kay, now what's all this about virtual snooker?

There's a virtual snooker table in Ruggie's (sticky thread in the Throw Off The Rug board). The virtual drinks are free too. Maybe see you in there?

A cup of tea would do me just fine. That's something the Indians excell at - tea. We get ours from a speciality tea shop called Regalia Tea House. And some people like to import British teabags. Rolling Eyes

Kay Very Happy

Hiya everyone,
Just now found this website and had to register. I've been in the States 21 yrs. 1st 2 in California, the rest in Arkansas. This state definitely would not have been my choice to live, i'd never even heard of it, but my ex hubby is from here and i wanted my kids raised around him. Will probably end up staying here, unless my kids decide to move on then this mom maybe following, but i don't see that happening.
This is a beautiful state and i do like living here..except for the horrible hot and humid summers and the fact that u have to drive everywhere. Oh well. Gotta make the best don't you?
karen.
