Hi there,
Me and my partner are very keen to move either to Benalmadena or Fuengirola in the future but are wondering where is likely to have more British expats as we do intend to learn Spanish but would be more comfortable if there were quite a few English people where we live. Can anybody help? Also we don't know where to start in finding accomodation or jobs etc.Obviously the biggest move we will ever make so we want to get it right. We would be grateful of any help. Smile

As far as I know there is a large British expat community in both of these places.
Have you read the British Expat Editors' Blog lately?

Both areas have large UK expat communities.

You may find it dificult to get work without spanish, unless you are only going to offer some sort of service to the expat community.

In terms of expat numbers, Fuengirola and Benalmadena, along with Torremilinos, probably have the greatest numbers of Brits along the Costa del Sol. Other places in Spain with plenty of expats would include Benidorm/Javea on the Costa Blanca and Barcelona (in particular Salou).

In terms of finding jobs, I'd strongly suggest a couple of trips to the area you are going to move to to line up work (that means having a contract, etc. not just a vague word of mouth agreement). There are agencies who specialise in finding work for expats (wemploy.com is one I think) and estate agents and bars are typical employers that may not require Spanish.
