I have it on good authority that it's ok for me to discuss books in here...please don't hurt me Shocked **ducks**

Anyway I love reading and being a horror fan, I'm a big Stephen King and Richard Laymon fan (hence the name) BUT...

Until recently, horror was all I read. I've recently got into Robin Cook (the medic, not the politician) and I am currently reading "The Echo" by Minette Walters and I'm really enjoying it, I was wondering if anyone else had read any of her books and what they thought of them.

Also if anyone can recommend some good writers it'd be greatly appreciated, I'm not into romance or anything girlie though. Laughing

Haven't read her books, but have seen them all televised, and they were all worth watching.

My family all read Patricia Cornwell, and Nelson de Mille.

I like mystery and also books about the world.
At the moment I enjoy anything by Ian Rankin (mystery based in Edinburgh) and for travellers anything by Paul Theroux but especially "The Happy Isles of Oceania"
I don't know if this writer is still available but Gavin Young wrote some great adventure in the 80's - notably "Slow boats to China" published by Penguin.
For more serious reading try Rohinton Mistry excellent writing about life in India.

You might like Iain Banks. Kinda weird, bordering on sci-fi. He does write sci-fi but he does that in the name Iain M Banks. Brilliant stuff!

Rohinton Mistry? Yes, one of my all time favourite authors. A Fine Balance is superb! It's hard to believe it's fiction at times.

Sorry, I haven't heard of Minette Walters before.

How about Terry Pratchett's Disc World series? Light reading, very funny, clever, and feel-good. The first one wasn't the best. They get better as you get into the series. Highly recommended.

Enjoy!

Is that Louie's brother?

Kay, I've read some Pratchett (Daniel's a big fan of his so his books are all around the house) I guess I'm just not into comedy books. I prefer serious books, like crime, mystery etc. I'll definately try get hold of some Iain Banks though, I've been meaning to try him out for a while. thanks Very Happy

I'm really not sure but one of Paul's books "The Mosquito Coast" was made into a movie.
