The year before last, I bought three irises. They are called Beverly Sills (not sure if her name is Beverley or Beverly but still). The first and second years all three of them bloomed. But this year, I seem to have lost two of them although the third one looks really healthy.

Does anybody have any idea why the other two didn't survive? I should mention that it's really cold here in winter - 30-40 below on occasion.

If I have done that right you should be able to click on the thumbnail to get the big photo.

Firstly, Liz, you did it right, and the photo is a cracker! I'm glad I'm not the only one still using Photobucket Smile

I think you may have winter temperatures below what these plants can cope with. Why not plant them in a big pot, keep them indoors over winter - they do not need light because they are dormant, so a garage or out-building will do. Take them out in spring, dig a hole and plonk the pot in. It will look as though they are growing there. But you can lift them and take them back inside when the temperature drops.

I never thought of doing that. I guess I could put one in each pot and make the pot big so it has room to grow.

I think I will do that with this one before winter comes. It's so pretty. I suppose it was just luck that this one survived when the others didn't.
