Brilliant slideshow and audio narrative on the BBC Magazine website about Gunther Holtorf, who set off with his wife on an 18-month drive around Africa in a Mercedes G-Wagen back in 1989... and is still going, though his wife isn't - she died a couple of years back but urged him to keep driving.

Some of the photography is really excellent. He's got two cameras, both Leicas, both 35mm film.

Great. Anyone know how his wife died? She doesn't look old or sick in any of the photos.

He seems to have one of the better G-Wagens. I've known a couple of friends who had them but didn't find them very reliable - but that may have been crappy garages servicing them...
