Needless to say, I am quite unable to upload an avatar of my own!! However, is there any way that members can ask to have a female BE avatar? I have found myself corresponding with what I thought was a gentleman only to find out she is a ladyeee!! Embarassed
Please forgive if this has already been covered.

Hi Wendy - no, it hasn't been covered yet. We've only recently enabled the avatar facility, so your question's breaking new ground. Smile

We don't have any BE avatars other than the default one at present, and haven't any plans to add more at this stage. However, you don't have to upload your own avatar to get something other than the default - there are several sites around that give you the chance to create an avatar, and several more that host them for you too. Just do a search for "create avatar" and you should find a few options.

Avatars uploaded to our server are limited to a file size of 6KB and a size on the screen of 80 x 80 pixels.

Whether you want a remotely hosted avatar or one hosted on our server, you can enter the details on your profile page.

Thanks Dave, I had already tried a site specialising in avatars and they gave me a list of various letters and numbers for the one I chose, but then I had no idea what to do with them so that I could upload it. I did try highlighting in case it was a cut and paste job, but that didn't work. I do get so discouraged sometimes, these computers seem to see me coming!! Most of these websites are aimed at the young and computer savvy. My other problem with using "free sites" is that I am likely to give myself a virus - although perhaps you didn't mean free sites! I won't ask you to recommend an easy to use site, because your are a serious geek, and you would consider the sites I have looked at as easy to use!! BTW to me the term Geek is the greatest compliment you can pay anyone and I watch the lovely Kate on Click on BBC with nothing buy envy and admiration!! Frustration

In that case, I'll accept it gracefully as such - thanks! Very Happy

To be honest, I've never used an avatar-generating site myself. The photo of me is hosted at Gravatar (www.gravatar.com) because I use it fairly widely and using Gravatar is a good way of doing that - the avatar is associated with your email address and gets added automatically on sites which are compatible with Gravatar.

Kay's avatar is a professionally designed logo uploaded onto our server here.

If your collection of letters and numbers begins with http:// then it's a URL (Uniform Resource Locator - or "web address") and you can add it in the box on your profile page titled "Link to off-site Avatar".

Good luck, anyway - you'll get there in the end, I'm sure. Smile

Dave, many thanks, yes I guess I'll get there someday!!

I don't suppose this is the right place for this question, but you probably know the answer. Is it possible to copy a letter (or whatever) onto the site, as I have some info, but don't want to have to type it all up. Thanks. WB Smile
