I think we need a better system, although I appreciate K & D have been laid low for a while.

A weekly post from the site admin entitled "Contributions for Pic of the Week DD/MM/YY" mightn't be a bad idea.

Meanwhile, or should I say, fitivver, when I was in Stromness, Orkney, last week, I couldn't pass this up.

I've decided to call it "How Much is That Pussy in the Window?"

It's either cute, or Stromness's equivalent of a red light district.

You know me. I just point and shoot. I didn't make enquiries.

Mike

I do enjoy photos that have a bit of character Mike and this one certainly has.
My first thoughts on seeing it were, that I would love to see the rest of the house/ and the street/ and the rest of the area. ....so it has certainly captured my imagination.

As to the character of the pussy in question.....I couldn't possibly comment! Wink

Must be a good contender for photo of the week....he looks like he spent the night on the tiles, the dirty stop-out. Laughing

(sorry this is still a tad on the large size Kay - I have reduced it down to 25% in photo bucket, yet it still comes out bigger than I would like)

Anyway, back to the blurb!

Even today, Australian aboriginals still have a good knowledge of 'Bush Tucker' This piece of mosaic artwork is located at the main road into our historic township.

In central Australia many aboriginals go 'walkabout' quite often, venturing far beyond the reach of local shops and supermarkets. Their knowledge of which berries, grasses and insects can sustain life is extremely important in these situations.
Although I would have to be in a very life threatening situation before I would eat Witchety grubs!!

Isn't it embarrassing! Embarassed and frustrating. Shocked Now In remember why I went off computers a long time ago - can't live without 'em though.

Is this an actual mosaic or is it made out of "bush grub"? I was just wondering because the Portuguese make these amazingly intricate temporary mosaics on the ground outside churches on Saint's Days with petals and leaves 'n' stuff. I must try to get a photo of one and try to post it!

Have a nice day. See ya! Smile

By now, Mojan, you'll have seen the rest. Thanks to Dave, who can make a silk purse out of a pig's lug.

But just in case there are still parasites out there who use the forum without visiting the website

The photo was taken last year at the festival La Romeria de Los Dolores, which is celebrated on 15th September in commemoration of the Virgen de Los Dolores, the patron of the island.

"The church of Los Dolores was constructed in 1780 due to a promise made by the villagers of Tinajo to the virgin of Los Dolores or, as she is popularly known, the virgin of the volcanoes, due to the fact that the lava floes that threatened to cover Tinajo stopped when she was brought out. For this reason, the festival is celebrated as a sign of the virgin's vocation in saving the village from the lava of the volcano"
