Hi -
I have just joined the forum in the hope of finding advice and friends.

I am a married, female, likely to relocate to Mumbai for 18 months, but the deal is that it is "unaccompanied" - get to go home every 2 months to see my family.
I have been told by some that this it is not advisable to be a solo female in Mumbaiand I shall find it hard to make friends???
Any views please?

I like nature, mountain walking, bird watching, sailing and reading. Currently live in South Africa.
My first visit to Mumbai last week was a shock as I had been inadequately prepared, and no other expats in the office, so no-one really to ask for advice.

Office location is Powai and the company have said I should stay in Powai to avoid traffic problems.
Any views if this is good advice, or are there other locations to consider without a very long commute and more chance of meeting other expats, making friends and finding things to do.
I saw no "non-Indian" people in the many hours I spent walkign around Powai, and whilst I am very happy to make friends with locals, would also appreciate connections with people from similar backgrounds.

Any tips on anything to do with having a good life in Mumbai, making friends, websites to consult, books to read, clubs to join and also transportation advice (job does not include a car) will be much appreciated.

thanks
CJ

Hi CLJ

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your posting. I've never been to Mumbai, but I did live in Delhi for several years and enjoyed it.

My advice to you (assuming you're British) would be to contact the Deputy British High Commission in Mumbai and ask for the contact details of the CLO (Community Liason Officer). They'll be able to give you details of all the clubs and events.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
