Did you see the request from some Kenyan entrepreneur looking for a microloan of $789 (from memory, may have been a tad more but that figure rings a bell) hoping to use the funds to create employment in underdeveloped countries outside Kenya. Very laudable I thought.

Sounds interesting - wish I'd seen it. I had a quick look, but it wasn't in the first few pages of the active loans.

One thing I did notice while I was looking, though - BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee; one of Bangladesh's largest development NGOs) apparently has branches in East Africa too. Good to see.

I do wonder whether they'll be any less inclined to impose non-indigenous solutions on local problems than some Western/international NGOs (including the UN) have been in the past. I'm inclined to think they probably will, not least because their emphasis within Bangladesh was strongly on empowerment (giving people what they said they needed) rather than handouts (giving people what BRAC thought they should have).

Has anyone spotted Stuart yet? That would add a considerable amount to our team loan funds.

Amazing! Our team has now raised $750 worth of loans. That's wonderful. Well done folks. I also see that some of the loans are starting to be repaid now. One of them has even been repaid by 25%.

Thanks to all who are joining in!
