Can see there have not been any posts on here for some time. In view of recent comments elsewhere I am wondering if retirees do not stay. Does the enthusiasm wear off, or are there problems for pensioners that are not resolveable on Malta? Would be glad to here that some OAPs have stayed on Malta after retiring there, or are you all so busy that you cant stay on forums ?

cheers

I'd guess 75% of the 1,000-odd Brits living in Gozo, and maybe 50% of the 5,000-odd in Malta are of retirement age. I think this board is quiet as queries get posted on the other Malta boards.

Yeah, and some of us newer ones tend to forget that we are now pensioners Laughing

Gozomark, What are the other Malta boards that retirees post on? As a potential Malta retiree, I've had a hard time finding them. Thanks

I meant the other boards on this site Smile

there appear to be very few issues that are only of interest to people who are over retirement age

Hi PanGirl

If it's about money, in general, they post on Money Matters, housing goes on the Housing/Property board, etc. This one is mainly for issues specific to pensioners or to pension-related issues.

Hope this helps,

Kay

Well now there is something. On reflection of course I should have realised that there would not be that many topics relating only to pensioners that would not be covered in the other sections. Except of course the grumpy old men (and women) bits Smile

cheers

I don't know whether its because its a small island, or because its Mediterranean culture, but Gozo is much less age-centric than the UK - people seem much less concerned with people's age, and my circle of friends covers people from their teens up to their 70's. I don't know if the same is true of Malta, but I presume it is.

Being grumpy - LOL!

We also have some pensions information on the BE website (remember BE is more than just a Malta forum.) Twisted Evil

If you're interested in joining worldwide pensioners groups who are campaigning for pensioners' rights, you'll find the info there.

Gozomark, Kay and other retirees, I was just interested in Ozed's comment and not seen much from us 'ole folks'. But have read most of the answers to my questions on the board. And after two trips to Malta and 'hanging out' with some younger folks, do see that age is not an issue, as it seems to be here. That's great! Can't wait 'til we can get there!

We should remember that pensioners aren't all old gits too. Twisted Evil Some people are lucky enough to retire in their 40s. They're still pensioners even if, like PumaBob, they're only youngsters.

pay someone else to pack load and unpack at the other end like we have done !!

For the sake fo £500 extra our insurance was alot cheaper because they packed it !! Not to mention the fact that everything is properly export wrapped.

The removal company packed and loaded the major items, furniture, etc. We just packed the smaller items into boxes, clothes, ornaments and such.

Problem is that I'm a 'hands on' person and had shifted most of the boxed stuff out of the house & garage so it was easier for them to load on arrival. Only took 3-4 hours to completely fill the container then.
Would have been quicker but it was a nice sunny day and Suzy kept interupting the crew with regular supplies of coffee and buns Laughing
