We have sort of decided on the south of the main island as the place to start our new life in Malta, but we are aware that we may well make a mistake and have to move after our first lease runs out. Did anyone else have this experience - or did you all make the right choice first time round?

Would be interested to hear from anyone about there moves to Malta after only researching on line, or brief visits over a number of years.

Cheers..Ed

Maybe it's not a simple right or wrong but I moved to experience a different area with a view to getting to know a few before buying, and I know others who've done the same. There are pros and cons to everywhere, for instance Għarb has the advantage of being quiet and the disadvantage of being, well, quiet, in fact a ghost town in winter.

Having only researched housing online (and locations via google maps) we originally wanted to settle in either Mellieha or Pembroke.
None of these houses were available when we viewed in March and we opted for Attard, where we now live.

Living on the island for the past 6-7 weeks has convinced us we made the right choice. Attard is central and handy for Valletta, Sliema, airport, etc. Also enough close to the beaches at Mellieha.

Suzy says that we would not have been as happy in Mellieha as its too remote, even though the island is small. Pembroke appears too built up and busy. So I guess we did make the right choice first time round, though it could just as easily have worked out differently Laughing

JJ- well we are almost accepting of the possibility of having a move after our first 6 months. However quiet sounds OK to us- after all you can always create some noise of your own, whereas it is always difficult to get away from other folks noise.

PB, when you first mentioned Attard in one of your posts, I did wonder where you would launch your boat !! Glad to hear that it is all working out for you and your family.

cheers..Ed

Launching the boat from Attard could be classed as a first time mistake Laughing

Unfortunately the road we live on is more like a single lane, with a high wall on one side. doesn't stop the Maltese parking on it and making it narrower!!

Getting our 8ft box trailer into the driveway was hard enough, let alone a boat, even a small one. But this was one of the compromises I made to get the house we have now.

If I didn't let Suzy have 'her' house then I wouldn't have been getting 'my' boat Very Happy
(or anything else I guess Wink )

Our first home in Malta was a sort of mistake as it had no parking space and was in the village by the church, until you buy a car and realise there are certain times of the day you cannot go out as you will not find a parking space within a mile on your return, on the plus side though it sold in within weeks of marketing.
