Hi, I am currently looking into car insurance and I was wondering if anyone could help me.

My partner is moving out to Malta next month and will be importing and registering a BMW 320d that is on a 2010 UK plate. He will be taking out a policy with him as the main driver and we want to have me on the policy as a second driver.

I am 19yo, have 2 years NCB in the UK (but that is currently being used on another car in the UK) and have held a full UK license for 18months.

I am finding it hard to get any quotes, does anyone know anywhere I will be able to find quotes or if in fact anyone will actually cover me?

Hi zoes. Welcome to our forum.

Sorry, we don't allow recommendations for companies on our public boards - it only leads to people trying to spam by 'recommending' their own companies.

Of course, it's perfectly fine for people to give general advice about whether or not such an insurance product might be available. Let's hope so!

Hi zoes, and welcome to the forum Smile

There are several car insurance companies in Malta- you can find them by googling - atleast one gives quotes online, but you are better off calling them due to your circumstances (2nd driver under 21 and not resident in Malta). Not all the insurance companies accept NCB from overseas - there are a couple of companies that do that are listed on the "recommended suppliers" forum, which costs £25 a year to join, with 50% going to Gozo SPCA. There is no compuslion to subscribe, but thats the only place companies are allowed to be recommended

How old is your partner ?

ps I presume the registration tax on a 1 year old BMW 320d is going to be very high (more than € 10,000 ??)

He should look at his figures and see if he can stretch it out to the 24month ownership period before registering the car in Malta. Very Happy

I can answer, because I'm Zoe S's partner Laughing

The registration tax is about 5,000 euros - its the ed edition "efficient dynamics" so only 109gm2 CO2 which helps.

I've got someone on the case insurance wise, but as I told Zoe, as we're staying between Sliema and St Julians she doesn't need a car anway Wink Cool

Thanks for welcome and the advise Smile

As SRG said we will be staying in St Julians so driving isn't the be all and end all but I know I will miss the freedom being able to drive offers, thats why I am desperately trying to find a company that will cover me. Fingers crossed!
