Hello,

Does anyone know whether it's possible to set-up and online account for utility bills?

I'm trying to set something up for a holiday home but it seems that I need a Maltese ID number - which I don't have because I'm not a resident.

I wasn't even aware residents could set up an online account - I presume you mean electricity and water ?

Yes I do mean water and electricity - apparently you can register and set-up an online account with ARMS via the following portal - www.smartutilities.com.mt. From there I think you can check your bills online, and also make payments through the website. This would be great for me as I UK based.

My problem is that to register you need an ID number and because I'm not a resident (and won't be for a number of years yet) I can't set myself up.

In digging out this weblink I've just noticed that they say 'if you don't have an ID number call our customer service number' so I might try that (but it will be an expensive overseas call so I might see if any other forum members have had any luck before I make the call!).

ah, thats new its actually - www.smartutilities.com.mt - ie without the final full stop

on that link if you click register online it says "If you do not have a Maltese ID Card Number please contact Customer Care on 80072222 for further support"

I just tried to register, and doesn't like my ID number

the 800 number is a freephone number (just called it, but only answered 9-4pm), but not sure of cost if call from overseas - do you use Skype ?

You can pay your bill online without logging in, but you obviously need to know how much the bill is. You can also do a direct debit from a local bank accoun t (and get, I think, € 3 discount per bill)

I think you also need to have one of the new smart meters fitted, as it's the only way ARMS can see your usage 'online'.

Darn. We don't have one of those yet.

Does anyone know how easy it is to make an appointment to get one fitted. I'm hoping to be out in Malta for two weeks in October.

its being done area by area - don't think you can request one

Hello - Quick update . . .

I've been in touch with ARMS people (folk who manage the billing for water and electricity?). And, even though I don't have a Maltese ID number they're going to set me up with a log-in and password. It's being posted to my Malta address so it will take a while for it to filter back to me here in the UK but, fingers crossed, this will let me view my bills on line (which will be brillant!).

Whether I'll be able to pay the bill from here in the UK is another matter but, one step at a time . . .

you can pay by credit card - just use one of the few that charges no commission for non sterling transactions

If Mark is right, does anyone know if it has been done in Attard yet? We would like to have one of those smart meters too when we will move in December.

We have Smart Meters, but we still get estimated bills until the man comes to read them!
