I will be in Malta and / or Gozo for 4 months. Mid Nov. to mid March.
After finding a flat, I will apply for:
ID-card and OR (Ordinary Residency). I have a travel insurance for the first 45 days. After that, I have the blue EU Health Insurance Card.
I will get a prepaid simcard for my mobile telephone and mobile pc.
Will this do?

"After that, I have the blue EU Health Insurance Card. " - is that the EHIC ? If so its only valid for tourists - once you apply for an ID card you are no longer a tourist but a resident.

You can stay for up to 3 months as a tourist

Think it would probably have to involve an overnight stay.

A return ticket would definitely be useless. A single ticket to/from Sicily to Malta would work better for the 'tourist' status. (Make sure to keep the Sicily-Malta ticket to show a date of arrival in Malta if asked.)

I got confused Surprised - if I work in a distance for another country employer and have European Health card and also apply for Malta ID as I want to stay longer that 3 months, I lose the possibility to get free health care with European Health card?

only tourists can use an EHIC - if you apply for an ID card you are declaring you are resident so not a tourist
