I've got at least one more year in Malta and need a car whilst Im here. I know many rent long term but this seems like money wasted although I do obviously realize the benefits of not dealing with any registration issues etc.
My strategy is to buy a 2nd hand car that is around 2 years old and sell it when I leave in about 12 months. In my experience if you purchase wisely at around this age, you can often sell the car for within 5% of the original purchase price in 1 year. I know buying cars here are very expensive because of the registration tax but I don't care as I'll be selling it here as well. However I see so many people importing cars from the UK that I'm wondering if I am missing something?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
