Hi Guys,

This question has probably been asked before but I am arriving in Malta in April and would like to sell my car and get a smaller run around car.

Will there be any implications?

I have owned it for 4 years and will be obtaining permenant residence.

Thanks

Durbs

Hi - as you are selling it, the car will need to be registered in Malta, with the payment of the registration tax.

ps I presume you are taking ordinary residence as the permanent residence scheme was cancelled, and replaced with HNWI (high net worth) scheme, which I doubt you are taking up.

Financially speaking, you would probably be better off selling your car in the UK, and buying the smaller car in the UK or in Malta, but I presume you want to drive to Malta in the larger car ?

Hi all,

Thanks for the response, I need the car as it is a 4x4 and will be used to tow our trailer.

What are the exemptions? I thought you can import a vehicle if you have owned it for over 24 months?

Thanks

"I thought you can import a vehicle if you have owned it for over 24 months? " - that's correct, but only you can use it if you claim exemption, and you can't sell it without triggering the registration tax
