Hi guys,
I have a short question about salaries in Malta. I'm planning to move with my family (wife/future child) and I would like to know what salary I should get to have a normal life, not high not low.

I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm working in IT field for the last 7 years (senior software developer).

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael, and welcome to the forum Smile

Are you moving from the UK ? If so, salaries are generally lower here, but so is the cost of living, especially rent, and the fact there is no council tax. Most local families seem to live on € 10-20,000 - expats similar or a little higher. A salary of over 20,000 is good here - your field should be better than that.

Thanks for the fast reply. I really appreciate it.

P.S: We are coming from Cyprus.

There have been some posts on here saying Cyprus is somewhat more expensive than Malta - you will find more by searching for "Cyprus" in the forum search engine

A little bump to the thread.

I was looking for work in IT recently, and the salaries offered (at least to me) are much lower than in this 2009 Reed report.

It could just be me, of course. But I've been looking at various ads, and even though some don't specify the salary, many do, and those that do have figures that are generally in the lower range of what is quoted in the report. That is, 30.000 euros seems to be the higher end, with 20.000 euros being the lower end, and most salaries offered are in between (there are exceptions, of course).

I'm wondering if this is my impression or is it true that salaries are nowadays lower than in the report? Is there a newer report from Reed, or someone else (official statistics bureau perhaps?).

Or if you are in IT in Malta, you can comment on the salary range in your company, so that we have a better picture of the current situation.

"I'm wondering if this is my impression or is it true that salaries are nowadays lower than in the report?" but "those that do have figures that are generally in the lower range of what is quoted in the report"- doesn't that suggest that salaries are still comparable to the Reed report ? Wouldn't most jobs in any sector be in the bottom end of the salary range ?

I'm a senior specialist and I've been looking at ads for non-beginner positions.

I think Mark's point is that the majority, say 75% of jobs in any sector will be at the lower end of the price bracket. In other words, there aren't many jobs at the higher end - although there are some, hence the from and to figures in the report.

Another way of looking at it: the majority of analysts will earn closer to 37,000 than 60,000.

Just to continue this theme from an IT perspective what is the state of the IT market in Malta at the moment. I am a Service Delivery Manager in the UK at the moment and have been an IT Manager for the last 9 years... Thinking of coming over to live with family but not sure of the state of the market.
Thanks in advance...
