Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost involved in moving a family of 4 with 2 cars (maybe 3 if they accept kitcars) from the UK to Malta?

How long has it taken folks to get "all their ducks in a row"?

I applied speculatively for a role and it may just be coming off all within the space of a few weeks which is a bit of a shock, thought i'd be waiting months for a bite.

Thanks

Rich.

Hi Rich, and welcome to the forum Smile

The major determinant of cost is volume - at a rough guess you are looking at £5-10,000 for your possessions by container(s), then, of course the cost of getting you all over

you have then got registration tax to pay on the vehicles, which can go into the thousands, but if you've owned a car for over 2 years you maybe exempt (one car per person I believe)

As for how long, as Malta is in the EU, then assuming you are EU citizens then the paperwork is fairly straightforward, and can all be done on arrival - you have the right to live and work in Malta.

The following is a good place to start

Thanks for the reply. We've decided that at the moment it would be financial suicide to make the move. Can't see how I would be able to afford a decent property on Malta on an apparantly reasonable Maltese salary so I've sadly turned my prospective employer down.

Maybe I'm a bit too cautious, but with a family in tow I don't want to regret selling up and moving and it won't be fair to keep two boys cooped up in a terrace or apartment.

I will recoup all money costs associated with the removal in less than six months of living here. If I include improvement in the quality of life than I think it will be much earlier. Just to give an example - My money costs towards residence is 40% of what was before. My residence itself is twice as good and four times as good if I include the surroundings/environment.
I won't include the environment just yet though , as I may have only seen the bright side of the moon !
It may be financial suicide on the earnings part in Malta, but don't think it could be on the expenses part of the equation !
Good luck..

I hardly see my Grandchildren in the summer months school break, they are on the beach swimming and diving most of the time, they love it, cooped up in Malta, don't let that be an issue.
