Hi all,

My husband and I are moving to Malta at the end of August and will be working at a language school in Sliema. We have just secured an apartment to rent in The Valley, Guze Miceli Street, Gzira. I just wanted to ask of this is a good area and how easy it is to walk and get the bus into Sliema. I've looked on Google maps but it's hard to get a real feel for it. Any information about the area would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Flo

I don't know exactly where that street is, but I think its near the swimming pool? Gzira is right beside Sliema and its not that far to walk, but how pleasant the walk is in Gzira itself I have no idea. If you're able to walk down to the front and along the front into Sliema its a nice walk Smile

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your response. It seems to be near the uni which inthink is close to the swimming pool. Walking by the sea sounds amazing, I'm glad it's as doable as it appears on google maps! I can't wait to leave this freakishly wet and cold English summer behind! Smile

If it's the language school on the far side of Sleima it's a fair distance to walk from Gzira, (in this heat especially) there are quite a few buses go that route every few minutes.

Thanks Dave! At least I'll get some exercise when it's cooler as it is the language school right out on the peninsular in Sliema! I can't wait to get to Malta!

Thank you for all of the fab info on this website everyone, it's been a great help!

Is it the IELS? Thats just behind my flat. Smile

I'm presuming you'll be walking earlyish in the morning so I think the heat will be OK. Once you get down to the water its a pleasant walk round the bay. Only thing to watch out are the boat tour sellers.

They're perfectly pleasant, but a few months ago when I was walking from Sliema to Gzira I wasn't stopped once, but on my return, carrying a 2m shower hose I'd just bought in a DIY store, I was asked by almost everyone of them if I wanted to go on a boat tour Mr. Green

I suppose it makes sense, foreign office advice for every tourist is to take your passport and a 2m shower hose on holiday Laughing

Hi Gozomark, thanks for this. I've already read through quite a few of the topics and it's been a great help! Thanks again! Smile

Hi Steve, Yup it's IELS! Wish we'd been able to get somewhere that close...although without a walk to work I wouldn't get any exercise at all! Thanks for the warning regarding the sales people....I always get that problem when I'm carrying a shower hose around holiday resorts! Smile
