pastizzi are covered in lard - I'm told each one has 600 calories, and you often see people eating 2 with a coffee for a snack

heck, good grief - that much calories in two pastizzi + the cup java is almost the max daily calorie intake someone needs. Vomit

Keep away from the pastizzi for sure - unless you can burn those calories off immediately, which BTW, would mean getting in & out of a vehicle at least 1000 times per day Rolling Eyes
My wifes Maltese grandfather had a remedy for losing those pastizzi calories - he took one ounce (30ml) of pure safflower oil before each meal.

Apparently it worked for him

Back on topic to the OP

Mark, have you any other information or aware of the major health issues or risks for Brits (especially the retirees) moving to Malta.

Some responses above indicate Malta is not good if you have or may be suspect for or subject to, Asthma, (watch for dust/mould/damp/high humidity), Arthritis, Obesity (over indulging/over weight), Diabetes/heart conditions.

Friggin heck - compared to the UK, apart from the hot summers in Malta, is Malta that bad a climate ... me thinking to stay away in the winter months (mid Nov - March) - find somewhere warmer?

Swings and roundabouts.

If you ask a specific question about what are the main health care concerns then you will get a more specific and sometimes scary answer!

Since arriving in Malta I haven't had so much as a cold. Very Happy

The only health problems I had during the summer were frequent hangovers... and major depression everytime Suzy looked in the shops at the (too many) designer clothes. Laughing
