Hi,

trying to track down info regarding air quality in streets & towns around Malta & Gozo. I know there are various stations around the islands but would love to see a pollution map if one exists. The only thing I have come across so far is the EEA report http://www.eea.europa.eu/soer/countries/mt/air-pollution-why-care-malta about air pollution but it is quite general and refers to Msida and St Anne's St Floriana only, as particular black spots. Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks

OK, well no map then Smile

Wondering whether mods think this should be in the where to live forum? Please move it if you think appropriate.

I am trying to work out what areas in Malta or Gozo are less affected by vehicle/power station pollution. At the moment we are fairly well located for Sliema & St. Julians, but way too close to a really busy road. We want to be near amenities etc (not in the country, but not necessarily Sliema either) but at the same time somewhere where we can open the windows sometimes in the summer without having to clean the floors every day Smile Any thoughts appreciated.

The prevailing wind is from the West or North, hence why the power station is in the south - in general terms, the further North/West you are, the less polluted. Mellieha meets many of your criteria, as would Nadur or Ghajnsielem in Gozo

Gozo does not have smog. The air is clean and the light is wonderful.

Traveling south from Cirkewwa one can often see a dense haze hovering over the east side of Malta with a concentration of hot air rising from Attard and the south of the island.

Dust is always a problem but particularly in dry periods. Gadaffi dust (coming from the south and soon to be re-named) can sometimes dump tons of sahara on all of us. Coffee at the 'puter Mr. Green
The problem with this Forum is that it needs more special effects and dance numbers.

Thanks both. Really useful info re the winds. Unfortunately that is the reason for our little polluted cocktail in particular. We are that dense bit on the east coast Wink

Any more ideas or information gratefully received.

with a concentration of hot air rising from Attard and the south of the island.

That possibly explains the problem from Attard, Rolling Eyes ,where in the Beautiful South could it be coming from?

We're distinctly lacking in hot air up here in the frozen wastes at the moment. I'm seriously considering migrating north for the winter.
