Hi folks,

Supposing we've just arrived in our apartment and are feeling a bit chilly. How do we go about organising gas bottle delivery?

Is there a registration process and if so are any documents required? How does the delivery take place? Is it a specific day of the week and they bring the bottle to your door? If you need a new bottle do you have to order one in advance or just stop the gas bottle man when he does his rounds?

I assume there is no residential/domestic tariff discrimination with gas bottles?

Sorry for all the questions but I just want to get an overview of the whole process.

Thanks

No documents required, but to get a new cylinder sometimes you can just ask the delivery man, other times you need to book it. Its € 25 deposit, which you will get back only if you keep the receipt.

Bottles delivered to your door, or you can collect. I think its once a week to every locality. Once you have an empty bottle, you leave the bottle outside - the system is set up for households with someone at home on delivery time as you pay on delivery, so I don't know how it works if normally no-one at home. Our gasman is happy for us to pay every other time. There has been cases of bottles disappearing from doorsteps in Malta (but not in Gozo), so maybe check with your neighbours.

Same price for all

Thanks a lot Mark for the very thorough infos,

I take it we can just go directly to a distribution point if we need a bottle immediately?
Can you give any recommendations of best places to buy the gas heaters? Couldn't see anything on the Recommended Suppliers board.

Cheers

Hi,

Shops that sell heaters:

There are loads of places around the islands. If you can afford a little extra purchase a heater which has an electric fan which helps distribute the heat. It may also help prevent some of the condensation problems you get with these heaters.

Don't forget you will also need a regulator, one metre of rubber pipe and a couple of jubilee clips.

.......and ask any of your neighbours about delivery day and the nearest distribution point.

Bingo. Warm toes all round. c. Mr. Green
The problem with this Forum is that it needs more special effects and dance numbers.
