Hi
My husband and I had planned to move with our children to Malta in July 2013. Sadly he passed away last October and our family are visiting Malta this July/August and are bringing his ashes. Can anyone tell me what laws there are and where I would have to get permission to scatter them, please?
Linda

Hi Lindylou, and welcome to the forum Smile

If there is a law covering this, I doubt its upheld (plus there is no crematorium in Malta) - I've never heard of anyone getting a licence to scatter ashes.

Thanks Gozomark javascript:emoticon('Smile')
yes I have been keeping up with what's going on and I'd read on here, I think, that the Catholic church wanted cremains buried.
Over here in the UK there are strict guidelines. I didn't want to offend anyone by just scattering the ashes somewhere I shouldn't have. Smile

I never knew that; in the past I have spread ashes here in Lancashire without asking permission

My ashes, I want half spread on Great Orme North Wales; the remainder scattered on the hill behind Xemxija

http://www.scattering-ashes.co.uk/where-to-scatter/law-permission-policy-rules-regulations/

"Good news – the law on scattering ashes in the UK is fairly relaxed you can even scatter or bury them in your garden if you wish.

There is nothing explicit in the legislation to restrict people in disposing of the cremated funeral ashes.

While the regulations may be on your side, the difficultly may come getting permission to scatter or bury the ashes on someone else’s land."

I was told that they can't be scattered in any National Parks, yes in your own garden but not on public park lands.

so, in theory, I can just bring my husband's ashes over and scatter them in the Med?

the link gives details of where you can and can't in the UK

As for Malta, I know people who have scattered ashes at sea, and hired a boat to do so without any questions regarding permits or licences
