My son has just paid his water rates, which as I understand it, covered February to June and were around 350 euros.

There is just him (and his dog) and he is out working full time. He lives in a one bed maisonette.

Does this seem excessive?

It depends on a number of things : is he the sole named occupant ?
is this for three months? is it an estimate? is the landlord working it out and sending the bill?
If he has the readings I think the ARMS site has a section for working out your own bills.
Ours was around 90 euros for two of us and dog, retired, three bed flat, three months.

Yes, he is the sole named occupant and it is for 3 months. Will have a chat with him as your bill seems much more reasonable.

Thanks for reply.

Coincidentally, I live alone in a maisonette with my dog and work full time but over the last 4 years I rarely had the meter reading taken and I got estimated bills all the time. I recently went back over the last two years invoices and calculated around Eur80 per month average so I am putting Eur100 away each month to cover it and obviously the little extra just in case my calculations are wrong (based on the estimated readings). I am the named occupant and I pay by direct debit so they give a small discount for that. I missed the meter reader the last time (again!) but this time around, I actually submitted the readings online and my most recent bill for three months was Eur35! Obviously that estimated readings were way off but until I have the meter read and have a look at future invoices, Im not really sure how much I 'use' per month so difficult to say.
After typing all of the above I just realised I am rambling on here and not really having a point or an answer to the original post! sorry Sad

lol ... no, that was helpful in its own way. If a comparision were to be made, then my son has had an expensive water bill. All depends on whether he has had estimates previously of course.

Thanks for your reply Smile

Blame the dog! I think my dog uses the shower all the time when I am in work using all the water. He is perfectly white ALL the time and people comment about it - so he must be in the shower from the time I leave the apt. I bet now he's sitting on MY sofa watching MY tv also- using all MY electricity! Very Happy
