Not sure about minivans, but when we brought our car and big box trailer on the Livorno/Valletta ferry nobody bothered searching it, and didn't even asked what was in it. Basically drove off the ferry and straight to our new house in Attard.

Can't see you having any problems but if something is new / boxed just make sure to have a receipt to prove VAT etc was already paid in the EU.

I can't tell you if there is still a tax on bicycles but i was once charged a fee on bringing a used cycle in a container, it was before joining E.U. if that is of any relevance, when we drove the car over eighteen months ago everyone in front of us on the ferry went straight through customs, as did we with a car full. Good luck with your trip.

Other than illegal items, the only thing they are really interested in is TV sets, as these need to be registered
