Hi there, I'm interested in learning about those who have taken an active part in building of a house and in so doing have cut costs greatly.

I am planning to have the shell built and then consider some or all of the following: wiring, plumbing followed by dry lining and plastering, fitting the kitchen & bathroom and doing some of the joinery. I understand about the restricted building work regs and so would take those into account.

I do have some experience but may build in 2 stages to get moved in more quickly and save some intital costs.

Many thanks for any help

Hiya!
Welcome to the forums! Very Happy

I'm afraid that I haven't yet built my own place, but I will be interested in hearing how you get on, as it is something that I would really love to do once we are settled (it probably won't be our first place, but when we have enough money to buy a nice plot outside of the city, I do have a dream of building my own home!)

Hi Toonster

it won't be started until next year, i've not even got back there yet but will certaily see what I can find out. I believe the typical $1500-2000/m can be greatly undercut with some DIY, quality DIY that is.

Wellington is a real nice city, spent a year there!
