Hi!

my name is Nancy and I'm an ex-pat from the North-East of England (I grew up in Guisborough but now call Newcastle home).

I know you don't allow advertising on the site, but I was wondering if it was okay if I gave a small plug for a theatre show that I'm making for the Wellington Fringe Festival?

Basically, the show is about my fiance (a Kiwi) and I can't agree on which country to live in, so we decided that we needed some help to settle it. We'll tell a bit of our story, fight our corners and then the audience will vote. It's real and a binding referendum so whatever the audience decides, we'll go along with it.

Since I'll be up against a parochial NZ crowd, I'm looking to get a few Brits behind me.

So if the site moderators give me the all clear I'll post the details of the show and maybe get a few of you along. It should be a really fun show.

thanks,
Nancy

Hi Nancy

Welcome to the British Expat forum.

Sure, we welcome it when people tell us about events and what's happening so you can give us details about what, where and when. However, no website links, please.

If you want to promote a website, then you'd need to take a small ad (£5) because, as you noticed, we don't allow advertising or promotions except in the dedicated advertising areas.

It sounds like a fun project. If you send me an article about it - and maybe a photo? - I can publish it and give you a link in the "about the author" box. If you did that, we'd also mention it in our opt-in email newsletter.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your project.

Kay

That sounds great - I have a good show description and photo I can send. How do I go about sending it to you?

You can also find a write-up about us in on page 4 of today's (18/1) Dominion Post!

thanks,
Nancy

Well, in the meantime the show is called:

'Should We Stay Or Should We Go?'
14-18 February, 9.30pm
Bats Theatre
$16 Full, $14 Concession
Bookings 04 802 4175

It's part of the Wellington Fringe Festival and from next week there should be a few programmes floating around.

Anyways, would love to get a bit of British support behind me so hopefully see you there!

Nancy

Hi Nancy - I'm sorry I missed the write up in the Dom Post (serves me right for not coming onto the forum for a couple of days!) Will try to see if I can get to the show Smile (though at the moment, I don't know if I'd vote for the UK over NZ, given all my friends are telling me about what's happening in the UK!)

I know what you mean, my fiance has an old teacher who is English but has lived here for 20 years and she said there's no way she'd go back. I'll still fight my corner though and either way it'll still be great to have some fellow Brits in the audience.

We've invited the British High Commissioner to opening night - it'll be great if she comes along. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, would be great to see you there.

Nancy.
