Hi

Has anyone had any problems with liver function tests. My husband had elevated GGT in his Liver Test and after a repeat blood test and no alcohol for 1 week, the GGT levels have increased! Now he is being referred to liver specialist.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem, advice appreciated.

Thanks

My hubby has similar liver readings. He stopped alcohol for a week with no change. It turns out it was his medication for high cholesteral that was causing the problem.

If your hubby is on any medication, that could account for it. GP's are great at prescribing meds (especially for cholesterol - dont know anyone who does not have high cholesterol nowadays Rolling Eyes ) but never tell you the effects on the liver and other organs. Then they send you for a barage of useless tests - without looking at the obvious reasons first.

If you need anymore info, just pm me. Been over here nearly two years now from the UK.

Hi

Thank you for the advice, my husband has been taking antidepressants for 5 months so that could be the cause - will get it checked out.

Sorry couldn't pm you for some reason.

Thanks again.

Hi again

There is a strong liklihood his medication could be affecting the results - depending on what he is on.

As someone who works in the health profession, tell him to look his medication up on the internet. I have quite a few clients who are very ill as a result of being on certain well known antidepressants.

Not allowed to pm you either for some reason, and dont want to give out my email address. But you can find me on another expat forum where you are allowed to send messages.

Thank you for the information Dave. In response.........

"The PM facility is a privilege we grant to people who are established users, ie who've been frequent contributors to the fora for a reasonable length of time".

Sadly, due to the lack of postings on this site, being a frequent contributor is proving an impossible task.

"PMs are fine in their place, which is for private and personal messages that you don't want others to see and that others would have no legitimate interest in anyway".

On this occasion, I sought to pm as the full response needed to be given in private as it related to someone's health.

And shame on you for editing my post to remove the link to another expat forum that might have been of more help to Healings.

No doubt you will edit this also.

Dave didn't remove your mention of the other site, I did that. I think it's entirely reasonable and understandable that we'd not wish to have our competitors promoted on our forum.

On which subject, it is our forum. If you choose to avail yourself of the free service which we provide, that's up to you. It doesn't give you the right to tell us how to run the place. I don't know why you seem to act as though we owe you something. We don't owe you anything.

If you don't like it here, you are free to go elsewhere. If your postings are going to consist of telling people that this forum isn't as good as other forums, then we don't particularly want you around anyway.
