My wife and I moved to Playa Flamenca near Torrevieja in May last year with our two children ages 12 and 9 and of course they both attend schools here.

Are you moving anywhere in this area?

Or are you just considering moving to Spain?
If so I can recorrmend an excellent family company who specialise in affordable properties and relocating families but that's another story.

My daughter attended the local secondary school at San Miguel from September to November, however she now attends the private international school in Murcia at a cost of 7500 euros per year (about 5000 pounds)

Even though we were paying for extra spanish lessons 4 hours per week, she wasn't learning much at San Miguel School, basically because she couldn't understand what the teachers were saying, which is understandable I guess.
The only Spanish she was getting at School was the Spanish that the Spanish kids were doing and it was going over her head.
But also thier were about 8 other British kids in her class who also didn't understand much of what was being taught, so it would seem that they would all stick together and try as much as possible to do sweet f.a !

So we took the drastic step of moving her to 'El Limonar' International School in Murcia.
At over 700 euros a month it's not cheap, but if she is to stand a chance in Spain, she now has the environment to reach her potential.
She was just going backwards at San Miguel.
The School is excellent, and most of the kids that go seem really nice!

She has been there for 1 month and the difference is dramatic.

Our son seems to be coping well, I think the level of Spanish is at a basic level. Probably because all but one of his class are foreign, so if it's not basic Spanish then no one would understand I guess.

Hope this info is of help to you and your family and anyone else reading this message.

Andrew.

Hi Andrew, and welcome to the board. Your experience is similar to ours, but you will be hearing from many people who are very happy with the local school system!! I'm pleased to hear your children are settled, it's one less thing to worry about. 8)
